Artist Statement

My work is a reflection and translation of my thoughts and emotions as I go about my daily life. We all think, we all stumble, we all put too much pressure on ourselves at times of the known and the unknown. A part of my process is using the work as an outlet or sense of space to get out and fight the inner demons. The process can be short or sometimes long but ultimately a journey through my mind. As I translate my physical and mental emotions, I extract shapes, patterns and colors as visual metaphors. I work to create a language of communication through the use of both physical and visual objects as they relate to the physical body and the emotional process. My mind and body working together, both physical and mentally, as I start with the formal elements and build upon the meaning and compositions. Subconsciously they turn into a journal of my life, capturing a moment or feeling that is deep within. A common theme in my work is water and the movement of water’s surface. Water has always been a safe space, protected area for my thoughts, feelings and emotional conflicts. The idea of swimming back and forth with the ability to change and manipulate the surface has been a strong source of inspiration. We have the ability to manipulate water with our bodies so easily yet it has the ability to reflect back at us, like a mirror and breaks that barrier between protection and vulnerability.
